Explosion at MOL’s Tiszaújváros plant
An explosion occurred this morning at the Olefin-1 plant during its restart at MOL Petrochemicals’ Tiszaújváros site.
MOL Plc. (“MOL”) hereby informs capital market participants of the following:
An explosion occurred this morning at the Olefin-1 plant during its restart at MOL Petrochemicals’ Tiszaújváros site. Firefighters contained the fire and extinguished it during the morning. The incident resulted in nine injuries and one fatality. MOL considers the deceased colleague to be one of its own and is providing assistance to the families concerned.
A comprehensive investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances of the accident. Based on MOL’s preliminary analysis, hydrocarbons within one of the pipelines of the Olefin-1 unit exploded while the restart of the unit was initiated this morning.
Other units in the Tiszaújváros complex, notably the Olefin-2 plant, remain in operation and MOL expects no material changes in refining processes and the fuel supply security of the country.
MOL is insured against such events, with insurance contracts extending to technical damage as well as lost opportunity type of damage.
