Personal car and truck safety
To reduce the risks our colleagues face on the roads we provide defensive driving training for those employees whose work involves regular driving. Courses are designed to train drivers to avoid incidents while promoting an attitude of mutual understanding and cooperation on the road. All participants take part in a theoretical course based on the Safe Drive Training syllabus and then participate in a monthly distance learning program to keep their newly-acquired knowledge fresh. Participants also attend practical training sessions, completed with personal evaluations. We recommend and offer to our drivers that they take part in a supplemental driving course as well. The four modules of the course are: slippery roads, off-road, driving at night and in poor visibility conditions and ‘untrained drivers’ training’. The aim is to train our drivers to cope with special road conditions in accordance with the principles of defensive driving in order to reduce traffic risks.
Influence on society
MOL Group Consumer Services Network displays posters, pictures and leaflets in service stations to draw drivers' and customers' attention to traffic risks and to correct behaviour behind the wheel. We will continue to hold campaigns to promote economical, safe and eco-friendly driving habits to help drivers reduce their fuel consumption. In addition, MOL Group is committed to promote safe driving behaviour to our customers on roads to draw anyone’s attention to not drink alcohol while driving and consume alcohol responsibly. Also, by promoting Global Road Safety Partnership projects, we bring together government, business and NGOs to co-operate on road accident related injury prevention in areas where we operate.
Our key priorities are safe operations, customer satisfaction and cost efficiency. Since Road, Rail and Barge Transportation is often carried out by contractors we make all efforts to ensure that these values are also enforced during co-operation with our contracted partners. Road transportation safety is ensured through our Road Transportation Management System (RTMS) implementation that is rolled out to both own and contractor fleets and consists of rules that all parties need to comply with.
MOL Group introduced the ten Life Saving Rules in 2014 that were focusing on the most hazardous on-site works. Roads represent different risks, to control these risks MOL Group published the ‘Truck Drivers’ Safety Fundamentals’ including basic and special rules for truck drivers while driving and/or working in MOL Group site. These 10 rules set out clear and simple “dos” and “don’ts” covering driving and road transportation activities, especially HAZMAT road transportation activities that have the highest potential to cause serious accidents. Compliance is mandatory for employees and contractors in MOL Group operations. We at MOL Group are determined to save lives.
As a basis for contracting barge and rail hauliers, a so-called pre-qualification system has been put in place whereby barge haulier tender winner(s) have to undergo an HSE and technical audit based on general HSE, ADN and EBIS standards. A successful audit is a precondition for contracting with MOL Group companies. To ensure the safety of barge transportation, MOL Group has joined an international organisation (EBIS – the European Barge Inspection Scheme) which has been developed by oil & gas and chemical companies as part of their commitment to improving the safety of tanker barging operations. The organisation deals with the training and accreditation of barge inspectors, has created a common questionnaire to be used for barge inspections and handles a central database of inspection reports. MOL Group is committed to transporting and loading barges, tugs and dumb barges only if they have passed a valid EBIS inspection.
MOL Group local operating companies are employing authorized personnel and safety advisors with appropriate professional competencies regarding all modes of HAZMAT transportation in line with International, European and/or local legislative requirements in order to ensure that the highest standards are implemented in our operations, including contractors in transport (by road-ADR; by rail-RID; by inland waterways-ADN; and if needed by air-IATA and by sea-IMDG).
As per an innovative solution in case of Training of persons involved in the carriage of dangerous goods, MOL Group launched a HAZMAT e-learning material (training and examination modules as well) development program. HAZMAT e-learning is intended for all participants in the carriage of dangerous goods in all modes of transport (by road, by rail, by inland waterways, by air and by sea), such as: consignor, carrier, loader, packer, filler, etc. The main goal of this training solution is to provide the necessary information and knowledge in the most effective and innovative way to employees. The training takes the following form, appropriate to the responsibility and duties of the individual concerned: general awareness training, function-specific training and safety training.
