Gasolines

Developments in gasoline quality are driven by ever-increasing efforts to protect the environment. In line with legal regulations, motor vehicle manufacturers are expected to reduce gradually vehicle emissions, especially the quantity of emitted gases responsible for the greenhouse effect (primarily carbon-dioxide).

This implies changes in the composition of fuels. Along with improvements in engine construction, continuous developments must also be achieved in the use of additives and in other gasoline properties. In improving its fuels, MOL has paid special attention to current trends in engine development, i.e. the introduction of high pressure direct injection gasoline engines and the spread of modern afterburner catalysts. Reduction of sulphur content and introduction of bio content are the primary requirements of fuel quality improvements.

  • According to EU gasoline standard (EN228), level of sulphur content in gasoline cannot exceed 10 mg/kg
  • Bratislava Refinery introduced sulphur-free motor fuels in January 2004 in Slovakia, and since July 2005, MOL has also been marketing sulphur-free gasoline types with less than 10 mg/kg sulphur content, and has reduced the aromatics content to 35% by volume
  • In 2010, INA introduced sulphur free (maximum 10 mg/kg sulphur) gasoline to the Croatian market
  • Motor gasoline contains bio-ethanol and/or bio ETBE in Hungary and in Slovakia

Both the achieved fuel improvements and the additives most recently developed by international producers ensure the high quality of MOL gasoline types. During the development of gasoline types MOL adhered to EU norms, and improved the most important properties, from the users’ point of view. In 1993, two years before the EU Directive was published, we reduced the sulphur content of gasoline to 0.05%, and from 1997 onwards, benzene content was limited to 2%. We are only marketing unleaded gasoline types since April 1999, preceding corresponding EU specifications.

Unleaded gasoline was introduced by Slovnaft as early as 1986. Since 1995, Slovnaft has only been producing unleaded gasoline products.

Since 2000 onwards, Hungarian and Slovak standards have complied with the quality requirements of EU specifications. In its product development plans, MOL Group takes into consideration all environmental protection targets regulations.

EVO GASOLINE

During 2017 MOL Group introduced a renewed EVO main grade gasoline to ensure excellent caring effect on the internal combustion engine. The main benefits of the using of renewed main grade EVO gasoline are the following:

  • 55% deposit removing on older PFI (Port Fuel Injection) engines, where deposits are typically being created on the engine valves partially due to the injected fuel
  • 31% deposit removing on newer GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection) engines, where injectors fouling can appear due to deposits created by the fuel
  • 99% less deposit on older PFI (Port Fuel Injection) engines compared to the EU reference fuel

EVO 100 PLUS GASOLINE

Through its own filling station network, MOL is marketing a high quality gasoline, containing the most sophisticated additives and in a special proprietary formula under the brand name “EVO 100 PLUS”. When developing this fuel, the aim was not only to meet specifications required by the standards, but also to satisfy the sometimes even more demanding user application needs and manufacturer recommendations.

With its unique formula and state-of-the-art additives, EVO 100 PLUS gasoline prevents the formation of deposits on valves in the combustion chamber, and provides protection against corrosion and gum formation. The following technical parameters make EVO 100 PLUS the ideal fuel for traditional carburetor, modern injection and turbocharged engines, and superior in reliability and quality to conventional gasoline types:

  • Low olefin content reduces the generation of damage to near-the-ground ozone
  • Concentration of strong carcinogenic benzene is significantly lower than prescribed by standard specifications
  • Below 10 mg/kg sulphur content means it is environmentally friendly and contributes to more efficient catalyst performance
  • Contains bio-ETBE for environmental protection
  • Does not contain ethanol, only ETBE (so-called ‘protection grade’ gasoline)
  • Better acceleration, greater power and smoother idling is achieved
